Where Your Money Is Actually Held
Zoe never holds your money.
Assets in Zoe Wealth brokerage accounts are held by Apex Clearing Corporation, a third-party clearing and custody broker-dealer. Zoe does not take custody of client funds.
Apex is a FINRA and SIPC member.
SIPC membership protects the securities in your account up to applicable limits if the broker-dealer fails. SIPC does not protect against investment losses or market declines.
Your advisor is independent.
Advisors in the Zoe Network are independent firms, not Zoe employees. You can look up any advisor’s own registration and disciplinary history on SEC IAPD or FINRA BrokerCheck before you hire them.
How Zoe Makes Money
The most common question we get is why the matching service is free. Here’s the direct answer.
Zoe’s advisor matching service is free for you to use. Zoe is compensated by the advisors and firms in its network, and through the Zoe Wealth Platform. This creates a conflict of interest: Zoe has a financial incentive to match you with advisors on its platform rather than advisors elsewhere. We disclose this in our Form ADV, and we think you should read it.
Zoe also has a referral agreement with NerdWallet, which creates an additional conflict of interest. [VERIFY with Compliance: exact approved wording — this must match the language already used in the site-wide award disclosures.]
What Zoe does not do: charge you a placement fee, sell your contact information to advisors as a lead, or take commissions on the products your advisor recommends. [VERIFY: confirm each of these three “does not” statements with Compliance and Legal before publishing.]
What Zoe Is Not
Not a robo-advisor.
You work with a human advisor, not an algorithm managing your portfolio.
Not a paid directory.
Advisors cannot buy their way to the top of your match list. [VERIFY]
Not an unvetted marketplace.
Every advisor in the network is screened before they can receive a match. See the vetting process →
Not your advisor’s employer.
Zoe does not direct the advice you receive. Your advisor’s fiduciary duty runs to you.
